Introduction:
Hi, this is the story of how, for a few days, my life got turned upside down, and how a twelve year old girl (me) dealt with it, this is a story about friendship, hard times, and love. Love, Addie.
Chapter 1
“Um, ok I guess.”
“So, like yeah my dad was like you need to be more academically focused and i’m like dad, do you really think school is about being academic it’s just a free hangout place where all your friends are!” I overheard Taylor talking to her friend as I sat at the lunch table alone not what I wanted my first day of 6th grade to look like but it is what is besides, who would sit with me anyway it’s not like I have any friends I just moved here in August, I moved here from California and I begged and begged my dad not to make me move (looks like it made a real impact, not!) I live with my dad (my parents are divorced). Just like that, the day came and went in my opinion this school has pretty lame first days. I mean back in California on the first day of school we’d have huge parties, play games, I mean basically the first day of school wasn’t even really a school day. Then again, it might just be that no middle schools do that. When I walked through the door I probably wasn’t even an inch through the door when I almost got tackled with a hug from my dad “How was it?” My dad asked “Um, ok I guess.” I shrugged and went to sit down but I wasn’t able because the questions just kept coming “Were your teachers nice?” My dad asked very curiously I mean had he been sitting all day just coming up with questions to ask me? “Some were.” I responded blanky, maybe if I just kept not really responding he’d get out of my hair! “Ok well, hey wanna go to the trampoline park. I bought us a membership there and I thought since you loved the trampoline park back in California you might feel a little more comfortable here and maybe you could meet some friends there too!” He said excitedly “Really?!” I asked, anxious for an answer “Yep!” My Dad responded “OMG YESS!” I yelled!!! “Well let’s go!” My dad said as he slipped on a jacket.
Chapter 2
“MOM?”
Dad didn’t notice because he was getting Slushies but as a kid I was looking around, I had never been to this trampoline park before but it looked awesome but right then, I saw her “MOM?” I couldn’t help but yell it, it had to be someone who looked like her, how and why would mom be at the trampoline park? “What was that sweetheart?” Dad said
“Um,um.“ I stuttered as I pointed at her. I couldn’t possibly make a sentence at that time there were so many thoughts running through my head “How, why, did she live here, who is she with, no one maybe?” My brain was rapidly coming up with thoughts. “What?” Dad sounded confused and honestly, I would be too “Mmmm…Ma..Mo..MOM!!!!!!!” I suddenly yelled “Now, honey I know you miss Mom but let’s enjoy the trampoline park you get to visit her this weekend remember?” Dad said sympathetically “DAD SHE’S RIGHT THERE!!!! “ I accidentally yelled I wasn’t mad, just confused, stressed, and every emotion possible. “What?” Dad murmured breathlessly, seeing her “Why, why is she here?” Dad said breathlessly again “I, I don’t know Dad” I said, suddenly saddened by his tone.” You can go talk to her, if you want, I’ll get the snacks, meet me by that blue table over there” Dad said sadly as he pointed at the table he was referring to. “Um ok yeah sure I guess” I said rather quickly as I ran over to my mom “Bye, Dad see you in a minute.” I said with a smile.
Chapter 3
“Wow, well hello there pumpkin”
“Um hi mom.” I said nervously as I approached her “Addie?” My mom said without a breath, I think she was happy to see me but I don’t know I’ve only ever talked to her virtually since the divorce which was two whole years ago F.Y.I. “Yeah, it’s me” I said with an awkward laugh “I see that.” My mom said with a laugh as well. A snowfall of silence fell over us for about 30 awkward seconds. I know what you’re thinking, we’ve talked before so why is this so awkward, to answer your question, we only ever talked when one of us had something to say and that was not that often so that’s why. “Where is Dad?” I know she didn’t really care; she was just trying to break the silence. “Um, he’s getting snacks.” I said “Oh, fun!” she said fake happily “Yeah.” I said with an awkward laugh “Why are you here?” I blurted, I had to say it at some point so better now then later. “ Oh um yeah, about that, um Sweetheart I’m dating someone he lives here, we met online he said he’d meet me here at 5:00 he’ll be here soon, if you wanna say hi.” She said. It sounded like she really didn’t want to bring that up. “Oh, um good for you.” I said sadly I couldn’t mask my sadness. I know that it would never happen but I had always hoped that maybe someday Mom and Dad would get back together now, that really won’t happen. “Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!” A man says he’s tall with thick brown hair. He’s wearing a navy blue suit and he also has a gold watch and brown dress shoes. He’s like three feet away from me yet I can strongly smell his cologne. It’s the same Dad wears but Dad doesn’t put 10 pounds of it on. This guy is in his thirties, maybe I don’t know though. “Oh perfect, honey, this is Taylor, Taylor this is my daughter Addison she’s twelve.” “Hi” I said, you could tell in my voice that I hated this guy. “Wow, well hello there Pumpkin” Pumpkin? Pumpkin? She just said that I’m twelve and also I’ve never even met this guy before “Pumpkin.” Seems kinda like a 2nd meetup name.“Well the kids will be here in a minute. They love this place, we can catch up while they play.” He said. Kids? The words felt like a punch to the gut. “He has kids?” Oh no I said that out loud “Yes Honey he has two girls that are the same age as you and a little boy that’s four.” Mom says “Oh great.” I sound so sarcastic. And that’s when Dad comes over.
